Easiest Holiday Dessert Ever!

I mean, really, it doesn't get easier than this. Well, opening a Mrs. Smith's pie is easier, but it's not going to impress like this dessert. Barefoot Bloggers picked Ina's Croissant Bread Pudding as our first December recipe.

You can find the recipe on the Barefoot Bloggers site here:

I followed the recipe to the letter, save one exception. My husband thinks that raisins are the Devil's work, so I substituted dried cherries. And they worked well; plus, red is much more festive than black!

And yeah, this recipe is an ass-buster. I mean, think about it--croissants, sugar, half and half, almost a dozen egg yolks. You could marinate a turd in that and it'd be deeeeeelicious. I would almost say that Ina has created the most fattening bread pudding ever, but then I remembered that Paula Deen once made a bread pudding using doughnuts, so I think she gets the Princess of Protruding Posterior Award.

But this is the holidays, people! We're supposed to eat delicious artery cloggers! Bring this to any holiday gathering and you'll be instantly popular. Because like most recipes loaded with butterfat, this thing is mega-scrumptious. Trust me: serve it warm. So much better that way.

I give you permission to eat this once a year. Without guilt. Just a tiny piece, because it's richer than Midas. And then go vegan for a week or something. Worth it.

Note to readers: I'll be kind of scarce from this morning until the end of the weekend, so if I don't visit your blog, don't think I don't love ya! I've just got some funky times going' on! Have a great weekend!

  1. You've got some mad skills TKW. I still can't muster the energy to sign up with Barefoot Blogger. And I don't know that I have pants big enough if I were to start BB'ing.

  2. I hope that it is good "funky times" going on. I have a recipe for bread pudding that uses donuts, but Croissants WOW how cool is that!

  9. I have contemplated making this (I have the book) and haven't b/c I'm afraid I'd eat the entire pan myself. And my ass can't take on much more load.

"Funky times" can be good, but they can also be shitty. Hope these are the good kind. Whichever they are, keep your cutting sense of humor intact, if you can. I'll miss laughing out load at your posts for a few days!

  11. I've always been afraid of bread puddings - maybe it's the calories or the texture - I don't really know why. But, I'll try anything you suggest so.....wish me luck! It sounds yummy!

  12. Yikes! And I thought my recipe was bad. (It uses condensed milk.) Think I also saw Nigella using croissants in a bread pudding too. No wonder I am always on a diet! More squats and lunges.....

  13. I'm not sure what we are going to do with the rest of the bread pudding. It is way too much for two people to eat, even when I halved it. Think it is time to share with the neighbors. Your post was funny.

  16. I do like easy, as long as it's tasty, and I'm sure by the sound of it, it is! But of course it's an ass-buster look who it's from! Who else beside Paula Deen.

Hope things go well with you! and I'm giving you a big ((hug))!!

  18. Yummo. I think I might sub chocolate chips for the raisins.

    What?!?

I bet Paula Deen put mayo on HER bread pudding!

  19. I have a recipe for Krispy Kreme Casserole. It has sweetened condensed milk AND a butter rum topping. My teeth hurt just thinking about it.

  20. Thirty Something: I NEED that recipe! Because, you know, that thing is too wrong not to see! :)

  21. TKW, hope the funk is good, James Brown funk, and not the toe-jam or dead squirrel kind.

YUM. It doesn't get much better than bread pudding, unless you go with the condensded milk pudding- boil a can in water for 45 min and eat with a spoon. Can't remember where I found that one, but it is an exploding danger, so maybe liability nixed that one for Ms. Dean.

Hope your funky times are also good times!

  24. Also hoping that the funky times are either fun or short, and that, if I'm going to continue reading your site, Mama gets an elliptical trainer for Christmas.
